We thought it would be a good idea to share some of the images of the trains and services which were operating in January 2010.

The railway has undergone huge changes in recent years and with an ever more modern approach its often good to look back to see how the railway scene has changed in that time period. It is possible to view News from 2010 via this link to our old site. We have also put together a selection of images taken in January 2010, some of which have not been seen on Taunton Trains before.

Snow in Taunton

With cold temperatures keeping snow on the ground in the Taunton area, the area was still looking wintery on 9th January 2010.

Various snow scenes were captured at both Taunton Station and on the West Somerset railway during this period.

A good amount of overnight snow with good sunlight the next day and open roads provided some excellent opportunities for photography.

First Great Western HST formed of No.43031 and No. 43198 'Driver Brian Cooper 15 June 1947 - 5 October 1999 / Driver Stan Martin 5 June 1960 - 6 November 2004' passes through the snow-filled scene at Beambridge on the 7th January 2010 after heavy overnight snow. The pair were operating 1C79 11:06 London Paddington - Plymouth.

Spare Locomotive

Having arrived on the 2nd January from Eastleigh with the former Virgin Class 57 locomotives for the First Great Western passenger operation.

Former Advenza Freight, now operated by First GBRf, Class 66/8 No.66844 is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton on the 3rd January 2010. The GBRf support loco arrived as 5V57 11:42 Eastleigh Works - Taunton and is pictured stabled in Platform 1 as the spare locomotives for the passenger diagram.
