Network Rail Class 153 No.153311 made its first visit to Platform 1 at Taunton on Saturday 21st June 2025. The unit arrived operating 2Q70 14:54 Exeter Riverside - Westbury via Bristol Temple Meads and stabled for a twenty minute period before heading to Westbury. The unit was captured in the evening sunlight at Taunton.

6th November 2023
Freightliner Class 66/5 No. 66587 'AS ONE, WE CAN' is pictured in Platform 1 at Taunton on the 6th November. The loco arrived light engine as 0Y25 20:10 Westbury Yard - Taunton on the 5th November 2023 where it spent the night in Platform 1 before proceeding to Fairwater Yard to act as the shunt loco.

2nd July 2022
LSL two-tone green Class 47 No. 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' (No.D1924) is pictured in Platform 1 at Taunton on Saturday 2nd July 2022. The locomotive arrived leading Saphos Trains 'English Riviera Express' charter in top and tail formation No. 47593 'Galloway Princess'. Upon arrival on the relief lines adjacent to Fairwater Yard No. 47810 'Crewe Diesel Depot' was removed and stabled in Platform 1, while steam locomotive No. 70000 'Britannia' was added for trip forward to Devon.

West Coast Railways Class 47 No.47772 is pictured in Platform 1 at Taunton on the 28th May 2022. The locomotive was being prepared to re-join 'The South Devon Explorer' charter operating in 'top and tail' formation with partner No. 47746 'Chris Fudge 29.7.70 - 22.6.10'. LMS Steam locomotive No. 46233 'Duchess of Sutherland' was removed at Fairwater Yard and worked forward to Bristol with its support coach as planned.

Having arrived from Bescot on a light engine route learning run as 0Z53 15:08 Bescot - Taunton No. 37425 'Sir Robert McAlpine/ Concrete Bob' stabled in Platform 1 for the night on the 11th May 2022.

One of only two FirstGroup liveried Class 150/2s left in the GWR fleet is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton Station on the 28th February 2022. No.150219 arrived as empty stock operating 5Z76 07:50 St Philips Marsh - Taunton.

GBRF Class 47 No.47739 arrived at Taunton Station during the early evening on Sunday 6th October 2019. The locomotive (formerly operated by Colas Rail Freight and named 'Robin of Templecombe') is now operated by GBRf. No.47739 worked light engine as the 0Z47 13:30 Leicester to Taunton where upon arriving it stabled in Platform 1. GBRf is using the locomotive for a series of route learning trips on the Okehampton Branch during Monday before it returns to Taunton for a brief period and then works onwards to Swindon. The Ex Works loco is pictured stabled in Platform 1 shortly after arrival.

GWR Class 150/2 No.150232 operated the final day of shuttles between Taunton and Bishops Lydeard as part of the 2019 Exmoor Gateway Project. The unit provided by GWR allowed passengers to travel from Taunton to enjoy the West Somerset Railway Autumn Steam Gala. The unit is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton in-between services to the WSR.

GWR Class 166 No.166210 stabled in Taunton Platform 1 at Taunton on the 5th September 2018. The unit from 2C91 was meant to return to Bristol St Philips Marsh but as the driver did not sign the diversionary route via Westbury, it stabled at Taunton for the night.

20th February 2013
Wednesday 20th February 2013 saw two veteran Class 31 locomotives (dating from 1959) stabled in Platform 1 for the night. DCR sent No.31190 to Meldon Quarry to collect classmate No.31452 before operating as 0Z32 16:13 Meldon Quarry - Taunton and recessing at in Platform 1 overnight. 31452 had used by the Dartmoor Railway during Christmas 2012 to haul Polar Express charters. The two locomotives departed Taunton the next day heading to Doncaster.

DCR Class 31 No.31601 is pictured stabled in Platform 1 at Taunton on Friday 16th November 2012. The loco has arrived back light engine operating as 0Z31 17:20 Meldon Quarry - Taunton (changing direction at Exeter Riverside Yard). The loco stabled at Taunton for the night before returning to Bristol the next day.
