4th April 2025 GWR carried out the first ever coupling of their Intercity Express Trains at Taunton on Friday 4th April 2025. No.802009 operating 2C64 07:00 Gloucester - Plymouth failed at Taunton with only one engine working. A following IET set No. 802022 'Cyril Bleasdale OBE' operating 2C67 08:00 Cardiff Central - Exeter St Davids was subsequently used to couple to the rear of the train and assist through to Exeter. With only a 13 minute delay to the following train service the pair departed at 10:09 only to fail near Norton Fitzwarren with further faults. The failed train caused an 84 minute delay and finally arrived at Exeter 101 minutes late where both services were cancelled. (Photo: Matt Powell)
