24th November 1984 Hertfordshire Railtours operated 'The Devon Quarryman' charter on the 23th November 1984 using a pair of Class 40 locomotives. The 1Z26 07:32 London Euston - Meldon Quarry used a Class 81 (81009) between London Euston and Birmingham before attaching No.40086 and No.40118 for the run to Meldon Quarry and back.
