Taunton Engineering

Published on 4th February 2006

The 4th and 5th February 2006 saw the line south of Taunton closed for weekend engineering work to relay track between Taunton Station and Silk Mills.

Passenger services from the north were able to operate into Taunton Station where alternative road transport had been arranged for onward transit to Tiverton and Exeter. The weekend also featured the appearance of a Mendip Rail Class 59/1 locomotive. At the time the use of Mendip Rail locos at weekends to supplement the EWS Class 66 fleet in the south west for overnight engineering work was fairly common, as often the Class 59 locomotives were spare at weekends.
