With the mainline between Truro and Penzance having been closed for the past week for track relaying work Colas Class 70's returned to Westbury on Friday 23rd March. No.70815 leads partner No.70817 in top and tail formation up Whiteball Bank while working the 6C28 04:00 Truro - Westbury engineers.

Colas Rail Freight Class 70/8 No. 70808 passes Whiteball on the 16th February 2018 running light engine. Having received a B Exam at Tavistock Junction the locomotive operated the 10:47 Tavistock Junction - Westbury light engine move.

3rd January 2018
DB Cargo operated the first freight train of 2018. Before Christmas DB Cargo stored a rake of wagons at Exeter Riverside for the Christmas period. On January 3rd EWS liveried Class 66 No.66025 was sent light engine from Westbury and haul the rake back to Whatley Quarry where they would return to daily use. The locomotive is pictured climbing to Whiteball Tunnel hauling the 7C28 Exeter Riverside - Whatley Quarry formed of empty aggregate wagons.

Following a light engine move to Plymouth on the 28th December 2017, Direct Rail Services transferred four former Virgin Mk3 coaches from Laria Depot to Crewe on Friday 29th. The coaches have all had under frame and bogie work carried out under contract at Laira prior to their move. Class 57/3 No. 57303 'Pride of Carlisle' leads Class 37 No.37059 up Whiteball Bank while working the 5Z63 10:55 Laira - Crewe hauling Mk3s No.11018, 10212, 12133 and 12078.

Saturday 16th September 2017 provided the return of two former British Rail Class 50’s to Somerset and Devon working Pathfinder Tours ‘The Torbay and Dart Explorer’ railtour from Worcester Shrub Hill through to Kingswear. The first leg of the charter from Burton on Trent to Wocester having been hauled by DB Cargo Class 66 No.66129. The Class 50’s returned to their former 1980’s stomping ground bringing the sound of two English Electric 16 CSVT engines working hard as they passed through the area. The pair were clocked running at over 100mph in several locations during their journey. The Fifty Fund which now cares for six of the Class at their Kidderminster base, provided No. 50007 'Hercules' ‘Hercules’ and No. 50049 'Defiance' ‘Defiance’ for day trip to the English Riviera. Exiting from Somerset into Devon the pair of English Electric locomotives haul the Torbay and Dart Explorer out of Whiteball Tunnel with their almost complete rake of British Rail Blue/Grey coaching stock.

Thursday 3rd August 2017 provided the second heritage Class 37 of the week, passing through the Taunton area. Direct Rail Services Class 37/4 No. 37403 'Isle of Mull' made a very rare appearance hauling inspection saloon 'Caroline' working as the 2Z02 06:45 Willesden Brent to Willesden Brent via Newton Abbot. The locomotive currently carries full BR Large Logo livery and is named 'Isle of Mull' along with the famous 'Highland Terrier' embellishment to the loco side. Many of the Class 37/4 operated by DRS now carry the same former British Rail livery. The locomotive is pictured entering Devon having just exited from Whiteball Tunnel.

Ex-LMS Class 7P 4-6-0 No. 46100 'Royal Scot' 'Royal Scot' passes over Whiteball Summit on Sunday 30th July 2017 with 'The Royal Duchy', 1Z37 08:52 Bristol Temple Meads to Par. The first leg of the tour from Bristol was worked by West Coast Class 33 No. 33207 'Jim Martin', the Scot taking control of the train from Taunton onwards after night stopping at the nearby West Somerset Railway.

A full week of IEP testing began on Monday 17th July 2017 with the first of three booked visits to Plymouth during daylight hours. Taunton will also see an IEP visit each weekday. Pioneer HITACHI IEP set No.800001 is captured passing over Whiteball Summit whilst working 5X90 08:22 North Pole IEP Depot to Plymouth & return.

Aggregate Industries liveried Class 59/0 No. 59004 'Paul A Hammond' 'Paul A Hammond' added a splash of colour to the 10th April 2017 making an appearance on the Exeter Riverside stone contract. The clean locomotive is seen hauling the empties up Whiteball Bank on the 10th April 2017 returning to Westbury.

BR Marooon Western No. D1015 'Western Champion' storms through the pouring rain on the downward run from Whiteball Tunnel through Burlescombe on the 3rd April 2010. The Loco was fronting the 1Z52 06:38 London Paddington - Penzance charter which worked as far as Exeter St Davids where LMS Black 5 No.44871 and Britannia No. 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' took over for the run to Penzance. D1015 'Western Champion' later returned the tour to London Paddington from Penzance.

Ex Works BR Blue Class 31 No.31117 exits from Whiteball Tunnel into Devon on the 1st June 1985 hauling the 05:50 London Paddington - Plymouth mail / parcels service.
