The 1M56 08:46 Penzance - Manchester Piccadilly service was strengthened to form a special train to mark the end of locomotive haulage on the Cross Country network.

BR Blue Class 47/8 No.47840 prepares to depart Taunton Station double heading with classmate No.47847 while operating the Cross Country Locomotive Farewell charter on the 19th August 2002. The 1M56 08:46 Penzance - Manchester Piccadilly service was strengthened to form a special train to mark the end of locomotive haulage on the Virgin Cross Country network, ahead of the new Virgin Voyagers starts of the operation.
