Pathfinder Tours 'Mazey Day Cornishman' from Worcester to Penzance didn't quite go to plan on Saturday 25th June 2017 in one of the most public failures of railtour traction in a very long time. Direct Rail Services supplied two Class 37/0 locomotives (some of the oldest operational Class 37's on the UK network) for the charter. It was planned to be potentially the last pair of DRS Class 37's to visit Penzance, as they are currently being phased out by new Class 68 and 88 locomotives. Before departure from Worcester 37069 sporadically shutdown with a CCB fault, and couldn't be reset, and was removed from the train. It was planned for sister locomotive No.37059 to go it alone and take the train forward. With load 10 in tow 37059 reached Great Malvern where it developed a DSD fault. This fault was fixed after another 20 minutes. It was decided should the tour need to reach Penzance then a second locomotive would be needed and a Class 66/5 No.66525 was hired from Freightliner. So the colourful combination with Class 37 No.37059 doing all the work is seen passing Norton Fitzwarren running a mere 159 minutes behind schedule.

With LNER A1 Pacific No. 60163 'Tornado' 'Tornado' taking a break in Cornwall and staying in the care of the Bodmin and Wenford Railway, DB Cargo provided a Class 59/2 for the return journey to London Paddington from Penzance on the 29th May 2017. These locomotives are more akin to hauling 2000 tonne freight trains to and from the Mendip's, but can put in a good turn on speed when let loose on a railtour. No.59202 'Alan Meadows Taylor - MD Mendip Rail Limited' passes Norton Fitzwarren with the 1Z65 to London Paddington from Penzance.

Work stained BR Blue Class 50 No. 50017 'Royal Oak' passes Norton Fitzwarren on the 2nd April 1981 with a mixed rake of Railfreight wagons heading North. No. 50017 'Royal Oak' made it into preservation and spent some time at the West Somerset Railway. Eventually it had a short period back on the mainline before being stored at Tyseley for a number of years. It then had an extensive overhaul and repaint at the Plym Valley Railway where later it was purchased by Neil Boden and made availible for mainline traffic, often finding work with Colas Rail Freight.
