Colas Rail Freight is back providing more cover for DB Cargo on the Aggregate Industries contract hauling Mendip Stone to the Devon-based virtual quarry. Having been unloaded at Exeter Riverside on Tuesday 28th June 2018, Colas Class 70/8 No.70803 exits from Whiteball Tunnel at Marlands while hauling 7C28 13:44 Exeter Riverside - Whatley Quarry empties.

China Clay is a commodity which is rarely seen in daylight at Taunton. Saturday 23rd June 2018, however, did see one such appearance. Due to the cancellation of the normal overnight Friday evening path from Exeter Riverside Yard to Bescot, DB Cargo rescheduled their weekly China Clay service to operate the next day. EWS liveried Class 66 No.66060 hauled the loaded Imerys wagons operating as the 6M60 11:30 Exeter Riverside - Bescot. The service also departed 68 minutes late from Exeter Riverside finally passing Taunton around 13:25. The service is pictured here exiting from Whiteball Tunnel at Marlands having made the climb from Devon into Somerset.

Belmond British Pullman liveried Class 67s No.67024 and No.67021 exit from Whiteball Tunnel at Marlands while hauling the 1Z79 08:44 Penzance - Bishops Lydeard on Saturday 28th April 2018.

With the GWR Class 802's not in service yet, testing of the Bi-Mode GWR IET's progressed further during April. On the Thursday 19th April 2018 No.802001 and No.802002 were paired up to operate through to Penzance and back. The pair head up the new order at Marlands exiting Whiteball Tunnel while returning north working the 5Z91 12:17 Penzance - Stoke Gifford testing diagram. The Class 802's operate in much the same way at the Class 800 units, however they are fitted with 940hp engines and larger fuel tanks to help with working over the Devon Banks, so this class will be a more regular sight at Taunton in the future.

Colas Rail Freight Class 66/8 No. 66850 'David Maidment OBE www.railwaychildren.org.uk' passes Marlands having just entered Somerset on the 4th February 2018 while hauling the 6C25 10:46 St Blazey - Westbury engineers consisting of lifted track panels.

Colas Rail Freight Class 66 No. 66849 'Wylam Dilly' decends from Whiteball Tunnel at Marlands on the 3rd November 2017 while working the 6Z66 09:00 Tavistock Junction - Tavistock Junction driver training run in preperation for Colas tamper drivers being trained to drive Class 66's.

Direct Rail Services transfered the first batch of stored Mk3 coaching stock from Laira Depot to Crewe on the 21st October 2017. The coaching stock is destined to become part of the loco hauled Transpennine passenger service in due course. Class 68 No. 68025 'Superb' 'Superb' exits from Whiteball Tunnel hauling the 5Z43 09:52 Laira - Crewe.

EWS liveried Class 66/0 No.66034 returned the long welded rail train back to Eastleigh from Cornwall on Sunday 23rd April 2017. The set had worked down to Truro during Saturday evening where it unloaded rails for future replacement. The empty train returned as the 6W98 08:00 Truro - Eastleigh Yard seen here at Marlands on the Sunday morning.
