An interesting comparison can be made with the opposite direction HST that it will soon replace, the latter working the 1C43 11:27 London Paddington to Penzance via Bristol Temple Meads due to the closure of the Berks and Hants route at Newbury for electrification work.

GWR Class 800s No.800033 and No.800027 slowly pass over Cogload Junction on Sunday 6th May 2018 while working the 1C19 15:40 Reading - Taunton service. The set later returned to Reading departing Taunton at 18:56. This is believe to be the first passenger service where a Class 800 has been used on a Sunday.

There were two firsts captured in this image at Cogload Junction on Sunday 6th May 2018, the largest gathering of Canal Barges ever seen (10 in total) and the first Sunday passenger service using GWR Class 800's. No.800033 leads No.800027 slowly over Cogload Junction flyover while working the 1C19 15:40 Reading - Taunton service, which had operated via Bristol Temple Meads. The train was slowed because a HST service had only just passed under the flyover also heading towards Taunton.

GWR have resumed testing with their IET Class 800's sending them back to Taunton on testing diagrams, one such working was captured on Tuesday 17th April. No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' passes Durston on the approaches to Taunton while working the 5Z19 09:33 North Pole IEP - Taunton. The set had worked to Bristol Temple Meads with partner test unit No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria'.

On the 16th March 2018, GWR Hitachi Class 800 No.800016 & No.800017 stand in Platform 3 at Taunton ready to depart with the 5C22 19:37 Taunton to Stoke Gifford empty coaching stock movement, while No.43005 is captured on the rear of the 1C90 17:03 Paddington to Penzance service in Platform 2.

As daylight breaks on the 28th February 2018, GWR Hitachi Class 800's No.800025 and No.800014 pass through Cogload Junction while working the 1A09 07:12 Taunton - London Paddington service. The daily diagram is now regularly formed of a pair of Class 800's which work empty stock from Stoke Gifford IEP depot arriving at just before 07:00.

GWR Hitachi Class 800 No.800009 and No.800015 stands at Taunton on the 15th February 2018 having arrived with the 1C22 16:30 Paddington to Taunton service. The set then returned to Stoke Gifford empty stock, with only two out of eight engines working.
