GWR Class 800 No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' is still involved in the Hitachi Class 800 testing/ training program. On the 11th January 2018 the bi-mode unit made another daytime testing run to Taunton. The Unit is pictured passing Cogload Junction while working the 5Z19 09:20 North Pole IEP - Taunton leg, which arrived into Taunton at 13:25.

GWR Class 800's No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' & No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' arrive onto the relief line at Taunton having operated the 5Z19 09:34 North Pole IEP Depot to Taunton on the 4th December 2017.

The two generations of high speed travel are captured at 40 Steps, Taunton on the 4th December. Great Western HST set formed of No.43195 and No.43142 pass while working the 1C79 11:06 London Paddington - Plymouth, passes the new GWR Intercity replacments. No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' & No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' arrived on the 5Z19 09:34 North Pole IEP Depot - Taunton Signal E483 before returning with the 5Z23 13:52 departure back to London.

Great Western IEP No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' is pictured passing Cogload Junction while working the 5Z19 09:34 North Pole IEP to Taunton running around 45 minutes behind schedule. The unit then terminated at Taunton before returning to London.

GWR IEP's No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' & No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' have not yet entered passenger service and continue to be used on various testing diagrams. One such test was Sunday 19th November 2017 when the pair operated the 5Z41 10:07 London Paddington - Taunton and 5Z42 14:04 Taunton - London Paddington return service. On only thier second night of passenger operations to Taunton. GWR Class 800's No.800012 and No.800010 are pictured at Taunton having arrived with the 1C24 17:30 London Paddington - Taunton service. After a one hour layover at Taunton the pair are seen ready to depart back to London Paddington with the 21:27 departure on the 14th November 2017.

Arriving in the darkness without ceremony Class 800's No.800011 and No.800013 operated the 1C24 17:30 London Paddington - Taunton service. This service was originally booked to be just a single IEP from Bristol but on this occasion the pair remained coupled.

Arriving in the darkness without ceremony Class 800's No.800011 and No.800013 operated the 1C24 17:30 London Paddington - Taunton service. This service was originally booked to be just a single IEP from Bristol but on this occasion the pair remained coupled. During the layover at Taunton more GWR staff were familiarized with the Class. No.800013 is pictured at Taunton with headlights on ready to form the 1A37 21:27 Taunton to London Paddington service.

The pair of new IEP's are pictured passing Creech St Michael working the 5Z44 09:12 London Paddington - Taunton via Bristol Temple Meads. Having called at Taunton the sets then returned to London Paddington as the 5Z45 12:56 departure.

GWR Class 800's No.800010 & 800012 pass 40 Steps Taunton while working the 5X01 08:55 Stoke Gifford to Tiverton Loop via Worcester Shrub Hill test run on Sunday 22nd October 2017. The pair then reversed at Tiverton Junction before heading back to Stoke Gifford IEP Depot.

Two of the latest IEP’s to enter their testing phase in the South West appeared over several days during mid September on various test runs to and from the Taunton area. On the 15th September 2017 No.800008 & No.800009 are pictured returning to North Pole Depot at Norton Fitzwarren while working the 5X31 from Tiverton Loop.

The latest IEP trains are now entering their turn for testing in the South West ahead of their introduction into passenger service for GWR. On Wednesday 13th September 2017 No.800009 stands in Platform 2 at Taunton ready to depart with the 5X63 12:57 to London Paddington.

Friday 8th September 2017 provided another test run for the IEP fleet. This time set No.800006 operated the 5X30 14:03 London Paddington - Tiverton Loop and 5X31 17:36 Tiverton Loop to London Paddington services. The unit is seen working the latter diagram while passing Creech St Michael heading back to London Paddington.

New IEP sets are starting to become be a regular part of the railway scene in the South West as their testing continues ahead of their introduction to public service in October. On Thursday 7th September 2017 sets No.800006 and No.800005 come to a stop at Taunton with train 5X31, 17:26 Tiverton Loop to Paddington. The pair had previously worked south a couple of hours earlier as the 5X30 14:03 from London Paddington.

Testing of the new IEP fleet continued across the GWR network ahead of their first booked passenger services in October. Bi-modal Class 800 No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' passed Taunton twice on the 26th August 2017. Having worked the 3X01 07:27 London Paddington - Exeter St Davids, the set then returned north through Taunton returning as the 3X02 10:40 Exeter St Davids - Swindon. The set is pictured passing Cogload Junction on its return run to Swindon.

A full week of IEP testing began on Monday 17th July 2017 with the first of three booked visits to Plymouth during daylight hours. Taunton will also see an IEP visit each weekday. Pioneer HITACHI IEP set No.800001 is captured passing over Whiteball Summit whilst working 5X90 08:22 North Pole IEP Depot to Plymouth & return.

Thursday 22nd June 2017 was another ground breaking day for the new GWR IEP's which are currently on test in the South West. No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' and No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' formed the first IEP sets to reach Penzance. Having visited the tip of Cornwall the pair returned to North Pole Depot in London and recessed at Taunton for an hour. In the coming months these new IEP sets will start to replace the iconic HST's which have operated on the route since the 1980's. No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' leads the 5X92 12:47 Penzance - North Pole through 40 Steps, Taunton on route back to London.

Just days after having been named at London Paddington by HRH Queen Elizabeth II, the new IEP No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' is pictured in Platform 3 at Taunton having arrived on test with the 5X20 09:06 Swindon to Taunton. The set then reversed direction and returned to Bristol Temple Meads.

The tides of change and rolling stock upgrades are certainly changing in Taunton. Thursday 15th June 2017 saw more daylight testing of the new IEP sets in the South West. Two services operated to Taunton arriving within minutes of one another on test. Left No. 800003 'Queen Elizabeth II - Queen Victoria' 'Queen Elizabeth II' is pictured in Platform 3 at Taunton having arrived working the 5X20 09:06 Swindon - Taunton while No. 800004 'Isambard Kingdom Brunel / Sir Daniel Gooch' 'Sir Daniel Gooch/ Isambard Kingdom Brunel' arrives with the 5Z19 07:34 North Pole IEP Depot to Taunton. The pair then reversed and followed one another to Bristol Temple Meads.

28th May 2017
Sunday 28th May 2017 saw the first daylight working of the future IEP Class 800. Having already visited Taunton the Class 800 reversed direction and formed the 5X35 19:41 Taunton - Stoke Gifford. Again the unit left well ahead of schedule at 17:42 running 119 minutes early. Class 800 No.800010 is seen returning through Charlton on the approach to Cogload Junction.

28th May 2017
Sunday 28th May 2017 saw the first daylight appearance of the future IEP Class 800 to Taunton. Most of the testing of these units has been happening overnight under the cover of darkness, however the 28th May a 5X81 path was added from Southall to Taunton. Having already worked down from Doncaster five car variant Class 800 No.800010 ended up running 110 minutes early. The 5X81 16:45 Southall - Taunton is pictured passing Cogload Junction under moody skies passing at 17:31.
