A Network Rail test train spent some time stabled at Taunton on the 31st October. 31465 arrived in the early hours of the 31st from Didcot before working the 3Q63 11:21 Taunton to Taunton via Exeter Fuel Point to refuel the locomotive. Later in the evening it then worked the 3Q63 19:32 Taunton back to Didcot Yard. The Class 31 is seen on the north end of the set at Taunton on the 31st October. (Photo: Wayne Potter)
As Autumn marches on through October, Network Rail continues their annual battle with leaf mulch on rail heads around the UK. This year DB Schenker have provided 66011 & 66094 for the current South West Rail Heat Treatment Train (RHTT). Both are already looking filthy from their daily spraying diagrams in the South West. The pair are seen passing Taunton on the 27th October with the 3S13 from Westbury to St Blazey which passes around 12pm on a Saturday. Further details about the annual RHTT operation can be found on Network Rail's own website. (Photo: Brian Garrett)

Following the news in March 2011 that the popular photographic hosting site 'Fotopic' had gone into administration, thousands of people have been waiting for news if access would ever be granted to their images. We are pleased to say that Fotopic are now beginning to provide access in alphabetical order linked to your user name. More details can be found on on the fotopic website, and an Email will be sent out to each user as their account letter is released. The access allows all users to download their entire image database using zip files. Fotopic have released a statement staying they will not be restarting the service, and that access is only being provided to allow users to download their images.
After the recent Fotopic announcement, Taunton Trains was able to gain access to previous galleries complete with their captions which would of taken many hours to reform. As a result, we've been able to quickly re host and re launch our WSR 'Rolling Stone' website which records images of the stone trains which have operated to the West Somerset Railway. 'WSR Rolling Stone' is now online and available for your viewing pleasure. We would like to thank all those who've taken time to send us information and photos in relation to these popular services.

After spending the night in Devon, Colas Rail Freight Class 56 No.56094 returned north with the loaded 6Z53 Teigngrace to Chirk logs. The type 5 is seen passing through Taunton Station at 16:30 running slightly behind schedule. (Photo: Adam Snow)
Colas Rail Freight continue to provide quality traction for their timber service between Teigngrace and Chirk. 56094 has has a few teething problems during its latest reincarnation, however the loco seems to be settling down to it's new diagrams rather well. With a shortage of UK Class 66's the heavy haul type 5 is a worthy and welcome replacement. 56094 is seen departing Taunton on the 17th October with the 6Z52 Chirk to Teigngrace empties, having been held at Taunton for a short period. We would like to wish D1010 'Western Campaigner' a very happy 50th Birthday from Taunton Trains. This week the Class 52 Western based at Williton on the West Somerset Railway is officially 50 years old. The loco has enjoyed a long retirement on the West Somerset Railway under the care of the DEPG. D1010 has spent 22 years operating on the WSR having arrived on the line in 1991. Although recently the loco has been blighted with transmission problems it's hoped more work on the loco over the Winter will cure the operational issues with the loco in time for the 2013 season! Thursday 4th October to Sunday 7th October saw the West Somserset Railway hold their annual Autumn Steam Gala weekend, the 2012 event featured locomotives from the Somerset and Dorset. The four day event was blessed with good weather and provided the chance to sample steam from many different reigons. For the first time in history the gala also featured every steam locomotive running boiler first, with the WSR making use of the Minehead Turntable and the completed Norton Fitzwarren Triangle to allow locomotives to turn, the move was very much welcomed by photographers and visitors to the line.
